Donut Spiders

Method

Orange Spiders

1. Divide icing sugar equally between 2 bowls.
2. Add enough milk (start with 1 tbs) to each to make a smooth, slightly runny icing.
3. Add red and yellow food colouring to one of the icings to tint orange. Add blue gel and remaining yellow to remaining icing to tint green.
4. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
5. To make the orange spiders, drizzle 6 doughnuts with orange icing to cover tops. Place on 1 prepared tray. Decorate with orange sprinkles.
6. Break 16 pretzels in half, then position in doughnuts to resemble legs.
7. Using half of the candy eyeballs, position eyeballs on tops of doughnuts to form eyes. Let set.

Green Spiders

1. To make the green spiders, drizzle remaining doughnuts with green icing to cover tops. Place on remaining prepared tray.
2. Decorate with green sprinkles.
3. Break 16 pretzels in half, then position in doughnuts to resemble legs.
4. Position remaining candy eyeballs on tops of doughnuts to form eyes. Let set.

Witches’ Brew Mocktail

Method

1. Combine juice, energy drink, gel and chickpea liquid in a shaker.
2. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds until foamy.
3. Top glasses with ice.
4. Fill with brew and top with lemonade.
5. Add sour worms and serve.

Jack-o-lantern Cakes

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced.
2. Grease and line a baking tray with baking paper.
3. Using a small sharp knife, cut tops from oranges.
4. Carefully cut around the inside of the orange to loosen flesh, then use a spoon to scoop flesh out, leaving an orange shell.
5. Prepare cake mix using eggs, milk and butter, according to packet directions.
6. Spoon cake mixture (about cup per orange) equally among oranges, leaving room for rising.
7. Place on prepared tray.
8. Bake for 20 minutes or until a skewer inserted at centre comes out clean. Cool completely.
9. Using a small sharp knife, cut shapes from the front of each orange to create words and faces.
10. Top with frosting. Decorate with sprinkles.
