CHECK YOUR SKIN, SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Visit the pop-up spot check van in Fraser Cove this October.

This October, we’re proudly supporting Melanoma Awareness Month!
During October, Melanoma New Zealand and sponsor La Roche-Posay will be hosting free cancer spot checks at Fraser Cove Shopping Centre.
Friday 17th October – Sunday 19th October | 10am – 4pm
Located outside The Warehouse.
You can have up to three spots checked, and checks are on a first-come, first-served basis – no appointment necessary.
Spot checks are conducted by a qualified Melanoma New Zealand Nurse Educator. The nurse will examine your skin using a dermatoscope – a handheld skin surface microscope. The process is quick and simple and doesn’t hurt at all. In most cases, nurses can provide reassurance that there’s nothing to worry about. However, if a spot of concern is found, the nurse will guide you on the next steps to take.
Melanoma Awareness Month puts the focus on the urgent need for the early detection and prevention of skin cancer, with a nationwide campaign raising awareness and encouraging Kiwis to take action.
Did you know New Zealand has one of the highest rates of Melanoma in the world, and the highest death rate?
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, and it’s mainly caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) – usually from the sun.
Recent statistics show there are around 7,200 diagnoses of melanoma and 300 lives lost to melanoma in New Zealand annually. The vast majority of skin cancers are preventable (90%).
Support Melanoma New Zealand:
Melanoma New Zealand does not receive government funding. An important part of what they do is securing donations to help fund their work.

What can you do to help prevent melanoma/skin cancer or detect it?
As you get older, the build-up of UVR exposure over your lifetime leads to damaged skin and an increased likelihood of melanoma. Make it part of your regular health routine to check your skin regularly so you’re aware of any changes.
If you have a spot, freckle, or mole you’re concerned about, you should see a GP, nurse, dermatologist, surgeon, or plastic surgeon as soon as possible.
Use SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK, SLIDE as a reminder of how to protect your skin (and eyes):
